Overheard at yesterday’s CONNECT-WORK-THRIVE “Return to Work” conference http://connectworkthrive.com/targeted primarily to moms and dads returning to work:
I don’t know what to focus on
I spent all those years getting my PhD and now I don’t want to use it
I feel shame calling my former co-workers for referrals
I can’t toot my own horn
I’m too old
I’ve got piles of ideas that never go anywhere
No one will value my non-profit experience
I’ll have to give up going to the gym
I don’t, I can’t, they will never, it’s too late… We know that we won’t go far if we practice this kind of self-talk. No disrespect to expressing our fears and worries. All good to get them out in the open. And then turn it around and say, can I do that? can I try that?
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Keynote speaker Steven Campbell said, our brain locks onto what we lock onto. He talked about how we can improve our thinking to improve the quality of our lives and reach our goals.
We all know the power of habits. So, let’s lock on to saying Yes! to stepping back into the work world. If you want a push, call me:)
